ok for all the bass players in band here's a little question game thingy for you
lets assume things are going great in your band then one day you have an accident and the doctor tells you the worse and you'll never play bass again however you decide to become manager for your band and your 1st job is finding a new bass player armed with a phone with every number of every bass player living or dead (you have the power of resurection now)
who would you pick?
and before you summon your favorite bassist think about it would his style suit the band?, would he get along with your bandmates?, is he really the man for the job?
have fun

When the guitarist called me at the hospital to see when I'd be back, I told him I wouldn't. Aside from having a damaged foot, I also had my shoulder snapped at the joint, leaving me basically an invalid. I told him to call a guy up we knew. They probably would have called him anyway.

For the indie/atmoshperic side project, I'd call up Colin Greenwood and tell the rest of the band to do whatever the hell he tells them to. |

The other dimension of your hypothetical situation is interesting: getting along with the other boys and girls. I was talking to a friend about this the other day, about the emotional quality of making music together. Its very personal and you bear all when you play (at least ideally - out here in LA there are many hired guns), and even under the best of circumstances almost anything can upset the mix. So I would say that the chemistry would have to work itself out and recommend someone on their skills and likes.

Although we don't play particularly similarly... I enjoy having Michael the SuperDuck on the bass guitar. He's pretty badassssssss..

I believe Abe also has the character and personality that I would want in place of my own if I were no longer able to play.
