Your ultimate fantasy band - who would hold the chairs and why

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys

This is our weekly discussion topic but wanted to hear what you guys thought of this.

If you could have access to any musician you wanted to put together a band of your choice, who would you pick for the various chairs and why.

What exactly kind of band are you talking about? Because you say "chair." lol

If it were any band, I'd say Les Claypool, Frank Zappa, Alex Lifeston, and Mike Portnoy.

My second arrangement would be Geddy Lee, Jimmy Plant, and Jay Lane.

My third would be Domenico and Danilo Citriniti with Ron Jarzombek.

I thought about this myself once.

Beware of my strange assembly.

Igor Cavalero - drums (ex Sepultura)
Cliff Burton - bass (Metallica, he still is the good Metallica. If only he would still be alive.)
Noodles - guitar (the Offspring)
James Dean Bradfield - vocals & guitar (Manic Street Preachers)

I think these guys were at the top of the instruments they each played.
It would be interesting if they ever played togheter as a band.

I know, I'm weird.

On another thought, It would be absolute chaos, but I'd give a lot to see the results of hendrix, moon, and jaco playing. Obviously it wouldn't work,

but it just might!

Looks like you are not short on options - number 2 would be interesting to see live, number 1 may be a little while coming until Hadrien gets his hand back into action - maybe Dominique till then ?

Joni Mitchell has/had about two of the best bands I've ever seen assembled, and was a dream band in its own right, at least to me:

You already know about Shadows and Light with Metheney and Jaco.

But there is another:

Joni Mitchell- Guitar
Greg Leisz- Guitar and Pedal Steel
Brian Blade- Drums
Wayne Shorter- Soprano Sax
Larry Klein- Bass

I've always wanted to hear Bruce Cockburn play with Bill Frisell, or vice versa, or adding in Jeff Pevar (CPR, etc...) with the three of them, or some permutation thereof...

Entwistle -Bass
Bonham - Drums
Hendrix - Lead Guitar
Pete Townshend -Rhythm Guitar (when you consider he was basically playing rhythm to Entwistle's 'lead' bass it makes more sense)

Vocalist is a toughie. It really depends on what direction you want to go.

I'd definitely have John Frusciante do backing vocals though, no matter who it is, that guy is an unsung hero to saving the RHCP's vocal tracks. He covers up so many things that Kiedis can't actually do.

NIIIIICEEEEE choice - ?uestlove is great, although I would not be able to decide if he would be best on Turntables and get someone like Billy Martin on drums, or keep him on drums and loose the turntables altogether, sadly we will never have to "make" that choice.

Others I would think maybe on trumpet Russell Gunn or Freddie H.

Bass ??

Very nice and tasty. I just downloaded "A Change is Gonna Come." What a great song.

This reminds me of the "Super Session" album produced by Al Kooper in the late sixties....1st session was Eddy Hoh, drums; Harvey Brooks, bass; Al Kooper, vocals & keys; Mike Bloomfield, guitar - 2nd session had Bloomfield replaced by Stephen Stills and Carlos Santana.
