So I recently discovered that this tune gets it's name from the morse code for those 3 letters matching the time signature of the intro.
Not sure whether the song or the title came first, nevertheless I think it's a really neat little thing that you have to think about to appreciate it all the more.
I was wondering if anyone is aware of any other really clever, intelligent, hidden or secret meanings in a song? |

Both answers are correct. Find someone that knows morse code and when they tap yyz you will recognize the intro timing. I have a drummer friend that is also a ham radio afficiando. He always taps out our names and such.

I guess I will just have to go and cry myself to sleep at how mean you are.
I'd rather play with the mighty fine set of boobies on my woman than think about them actually.... |

The way I heard the story is the main riff was written either during a take-off or landing at Pearson International.
But ya, I do hear that....and it's neat, but I think the main theme of the song was intended about their Home Airport.
So the song wasn't actually named from turning the morse into rhythm.
The OP claims that's how the song got it's name...and morse code as an answer is incorrect.

Think about it. That's some coincidence... | I'm not discounting the Toronto airport idea but the above numerology observation is correct and intentional. I believe it's something really only noticeable to musicians.
Edit: Musicians OR telegraph operators.

I believe the song is Lateralus, which derives it's time signature from the fibonacci mathematical sequence.
Then the lyrics start in the song, exactly 1:37 secondes into the song.
Which equals 1.62 minutes, which essentially equals the Golden Ratio. Also common mathematical ratio.
All that time I thought Maynard was a bit of a loon. Turns out he is very well educated, and likes to incorporate interesting tidbits like that into Tool's writing.
True Story.

The Morse Code for YYZ is
Y (-.--) Y (-.--) Z(--..)
And all airports send out a Morse code identifier. The Morse rhythm was set in stone long before Rush put music to it, very cleverly I might add.

I was asking the question if there were any other interesting little 'tricks' hidden in any other songs - intentional or otherwise -

True Story. | Now we're talking. I will check that out. Lateralus probably my least played Tool album, so looking forward to rediscovering it over again... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
