Andy Gonzalez

Since he doesn't get much mention, here's one. I recall hearing a marvelous solo bass feature to the Orisha Obatala on a date with brother Jerry.
Last I heard, Andy was struggling with his health.

This was a fun read:

Any fans? Recommendations, please!

Saw him long time ago with Fort Apache Band. Spoke to him afterward and he very graciously told me I could check out his ensemble class at New School. Went and watched as he set up tumbaos for people and explained how to play them over standards. Terrific, terrific player. Hope his health is doing better he's one of NY's greats.
