I'm always amazed at NHOP's technical skills but his ideas rarely move me; give me a bluesy solo and I'm happy. |

And NHOP's sound... well, we all know about it. So this clip, in my eyes, is two bassists who have really weird tones going, but it still rocks. Both of them are amazing players.

As it should be, he has about 30 years of incredible experience on McBride. I also think NHØP stayed more up on his technique through out his career than Christian does.
McBride in 30 years should really be something!
He still holds his own really well on this.

| | | | Musically, not all that satisfying to me. Then again, I'm not really a fan of double bass duets.
Bass-wise, an interesting comparison of tone, time, and solos.
Personally I think neither had a good tone (could be the way it was recorded).
However I still hold both players in the highest regard and have transcribed alot from each.
Were they both using an amp or only NHOP? |

As for all the who played better than who stuff. They both played together first of all and you can see the smile on Christians face a few times. I don't know what makes someone playing how they play, (like themsleves that is) can somehow produce a quality of better. Don't want to say it's not worth critiquing, and certain people are going to appreciate more someones playing over another but it I'm just tired of what seems to sometimes be "the rating game". Even if the intentions aren't that way at all. |

And if you watch at the end of the video, they both play some Van Halen-like tricks. So to answer your question, yes he did play some of Eruption, and so did NHOP, but I found Christian's interpretation to be much more "rocking". |
