After MJE brought this video to our attention:

I just want to say that I was really impressed by Chuck Israels note choice and sensitivity to the music being played. The tone in the video was beautiful but I know enough, from reading TB threads, that this has more to do with the soundman than the player (I'd like to be wrong here).
Anyhow, if anyone has any anecdotes or insights about Mr. Israels I'd love to read them.
I just bought "Bill Evans at Shelley's Manne Hole" and "Time Remembered" which record an early live date with Israels, when they were still finding their way. Israels writes the liner notes for both, and the notes for "Time Remembered" describe the scene at Shelley's, with a new drummer, no rehearsal, and a load of new arrangements which Bill passed out on 3x5 index cards at the gig. The sound is beautiful and the solo's are very thoughtful.
