Chuck Israels

I always hear people talk about Scott Lafaro, and dont get me wrong, he is an absolutely astounding player - I liked him before I attended a seminar examining his solos with Bill Evans (namely Waltz for Debby), but after that, I couldn't help but investigate more.
On the other hand, though, I've never heard any one really talk about Chuck Israels to any extent. I like his tasteful playing on the '65 version of Waltz for Debby that you can find on youtube, but who else has he played with since then? Any major recordings you suggest I find? And is he using gut or steel strings on that particular video?
