How about Kris Funn?

I wouldn't classify Ben Allison as Funk, but he can lay down some funky grooves.

My wife digs smooth jazz. I dig straight jazz (of many different varieties). Brian Bromberg's Downright Upright is an album we both enjoy.

Killin' double bass sound, too. Absolutely slayin'.

True true, although I found the feel very similar to Ray Brown's work with Quincy Jones back in the day...(soundtrack to $: The Heist)

You might want to start listening more.

It has nothing to do with listening more. It has to do with how you classify what the term "funk" music refers to. If all you need is to have a good groove driven by a bass line, then I could say that reggae was funk.

That track has some real groove to it... but I just don't see it as a funk piece.

What should I listen to that would change my definition of what funk music is?
