Hello everyone!
I am Malgosia and I am a student of double bass performance in Gdansk.
Here, in Poland, a woman playing double bass is still a rarity and that is why I would like to write a thesis about women and double basses.
So right now I am trying to find women playing this great and beautiful instrument - solo players, leaders of groups in orchestras, composers or professors.
I will be very grateful for any information from you.
THANK YOU )
I wish you all the best

You might want to ask this question over in the double bass side of the forum. There are also a few female bassists who hang out there and might be a great resource for your thesis.
There are lots of female DB players in the amateur bluegrass/old-time/trad. folk scene in the US. Out of all the folk bassists I've met when I was living in Texas, perhaps 1/3 were female.

I couldn't find a personal website, but here's a link to an interview: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/lifes...e_bassline.asp
and also, watch out for another Australian musician (NYC based)... better known as a pianist, but scary on upright bass too: Cathy Harley.

P.S. Ed, I agree with you, Noriko Ueda is killin'... I caught her live brunch set at the Blue Note last week. I was like, whoa! |

What about Chi-Chi Nwanoku from the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment (CD of Vanhal and Dittersdorf)? |

She's a wonderful player -- leads her own quartet, and plays with Laila Biali's groups (I saw her with Laila's trio and bought their CD immediately at intermission.) Great bass player, and a Humber College graduate.
