Doug Weiss?

I am currently listening to Peter Bernstein's "Monk" record, Doug Weiss is the bassist. Anybody know anything about him? He is killing these monk tunes. Thanks!

Check him out with kevin hays as well as al foster. He's also on Chris Potter's record sundiatta. Always sounds great, lots of great ideas. I'm lucky enough to study with him and those lessons are always the highpoint of my week musically.

Whats his setup? He has such a fat sound, which is obviously all in the hands, but I'm just curious ya know? That's very cool that you get to study with him, he is killing for sure.

Adam Kolker! amazing version of Green Chimneys! thanks for turning me onto that

word.

I owned his old Walter Woods for a minute. I think he's using an ampeg now. (who cares? . . . . ) like you say, it's in the hands.

He subbed for Chris Thomas in the Brian Blade Fellowship for a while last year. He sounded good with them.

Not easy to fit in on that gig because that core ensemble has been together for a while. And it's a nearly all originals book. (And what gorgeous originals they are).

If the Fellowship is working this year, I'm not sure who their bassist is at the moment. I think Chris Thomas may be moving on to other things.

Not sure on the strings. I know he had a velvet (garbo?) on the g for a bit, but is doing all steels now. His strings aren't that high. He sounds like himself though on any bass or setup I've heard him play.

Hi all,
Went to H.S. with Doug in Illinois and think it's great that he's made a name for himself. If anyone knows how to get in touch with him, can you shoot me a pm? I'd love to get back in touch with him. Thanks, and sorry for acting a bit like a troll (I'm not--I'm a true jazzbo, just not a player).
