Edicson Ruiz Vanhal, etc.

I don't know if anyone else has posted links for this yet. I'm not quite in the mood to check, but do give these performances a watch. Good stuff.

yes, making Berlin phil at age 17 says it all.

Bottesini died in Parma on the 7th of July 1889. His solo works are an uncommon performance today; not because of a lack of musicality, but due to their virtuosic difficulty.

Edicson Ruiz is just... such a tremendous badass. I mean, I'm the same age as this guy, and he's in the Berlin Phil kicking ass and slaying dragons every day. Plus, I've absolutely loved every solo performance of his that I've heard. What I like is that his playing is very organic and natural feeling, he's not robotically technically perfect, he still misses a shift here or there like the rest of us, and he loves him some portamento, but it all just adds to his overall effect. I honestly wish I could get away with playing the Koussevitzky with as much portamento as he does, someday, for something. I think it just sounds so freaking amazing, but I can't imagine ever trying something like that for an audition.
