Esperanza spalding

Anyone heard of her? Tried to get tickets to her show in dc last night but it was sold out and no one on craigslist would email me back except one rude lady.

Prolly because you asked her if she ever heard of her?

I heard she won a Grammy a year or two ago ... best new artist or something like that?

Seriously though, I don't know if a jazz artist can get much better known to the general population than her. I've been surprised by friends or family I know who are NOT jazz fans at all loving her music and promoting her CDs on Facebook and what not.

Really? You are asking on a bass forum if anyone has heard of Esperanza Spalding?

Yeah I think she beat out some kid named Justin Bieber that no one has heard of either.

Just curious...

Wondering why the OP wanted tickets to see/hear someone they never heard of... wanted them so badly that they (allegedly) searched all over and got offended by a rude CL response

Looking for the tracks of a troll

Well, the OP asked if we ever heard of her. He didn't say that he hadn't. Still, if he had heard of her, why wonder if a bunch of DB players on TB ever have. Weird, for sure.

Saw her here at Symphony hall last week. Of course, she killed it! The band is equally hot(trumpet player was a highlight), and the crowd loved it.

Yep, we've heard of her, and lots from her!

She won a Grammy award as "Best New Artist" in 2011.

Its just that we don't have very many women here on the Forum!

If you Search for 'Esperanza Spalding' you'll find a bunch of threads about her, many of which have links to good videos of her music.

There's this band called Rush--it's only three guys but they sound like five or six because the singer guy--J. Paul Getty--plays bass & keyboard, & sings at the same time so he's like 3 dooods in one. Then the drummer is a crazy poet who writes these insane lyrics so he counts as two plus what he's playing isn't easy so maybe 3. Then the guitarist is like number 99 on the Rolling Stones 100 guitarists list. Okay they sound like 7 people. I think they made an album that's supposed to come out this year but it keeps getting pushed back. Must be their first album. Rookies.

No problem - many of us were 14 years old once!
I saw her recently on late night TV promoting her new album. Great band, great playing, but the recycled Manhattan Transfer sound just didn't do anything for me...

Yeah, that solo stuff with her playing DB and singing at the same time is gorgeous. And I love that she's doing it right in front of Stevie Wonder!
