thread back from the dead.

i'm listening to a live show i downloaded right now with henry grimes, marshall allen and fred anderson grimes sounds great. i got curious about what strings he used, maybe to see if they were gut or what, so i started searching. i came across this thread, and saw that post about chad taylor, ribot, grimes and someone else.....absolutely awesome, i love taylor and ribot's playing, then that pic made start browsing pics.....and now we're getting to the point of this post.....FOR YOU PAUL WARBY......isn't this one of your good friends basses, third from the first with the crazy looking f holes.......

cut off the "/Photos/hg46.html" from the picture url to get back to the directory....more good pics in there. i also think i read that william parker gave grimes that bass, the green bass

anyway, it looks like grimes uses a pretty crazy arrangement of strings.

The wonderful musician Henry Grimes (now playing violin as well as double-bass!) has been very busy, playing more than 2OO concerts in 19 countries since 2OO3 to great acclaim. You can keep up with his doings at his Web site, www.henrygrimes.com.

The bassist the Austin member mentions in the photo (third from the left with the "crazy-looking" F-holes) is Sirone, who was known in earlier years as Norris Jones.

I don't think Henry Grimes uses any "pretty crazy arrangement of strings" on his beautiful green bass, Olive Oil, given to him by William Parker. The strings would be either Thomastik or Pirastro Flexocor.

Thanks, all, and Happy New Year!
