I remember riding the Woodward bus in 1984 to the Highland Park (MI) YWCA on a snowy nite to listen to Griot Galaxy, a "Sci Fi Jazz" band led by tenor sax Faruq Z. Bey, and featuring Tanni Tabal on drums and Jaribu on bass. Well worth the ride!
Those guys can be heard on record behind Gerry Allen, David Murray and or James Carter. I really dig this CD with Craig Taborn, especially A Man of Action, of rocking tune with a great DB solo by Jaribu.
Jaribu is now playing bass with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, replacing the late Malachi Favors.
