Karr-ma Sutra?

Found this the other day and I think it's worth noting. Check out the artwork behind Mr. Karr...

I'm more concerned by his choice to wear an ascot. What is this, 1880?

Almost thirty years ago I was lucky enough to be able to hang around Gary's summer session at Hartt. At the close of the week he had us all out to his place (in central Connecticut at the time). It was, as you would expect, a reflection of his personality: Classy, organized, beautiful and with plenty o' fun in plain sight.

What d'ya bet those are originals, not prints?

Play on, maestro!

Now is that the Jim Hamm bass or is it an old bass with the Hamm neck treatment on there, the moveable neck?

It was Karr's teacher's bass, Reinshagen..or how ever you spell it. It had a short string length of 40.5"...you can read about this on ham's website.

I believe Gary calls this bass "Athena". It may have been mentioned in passing in his Double Bassist feature. The first time I heard him play a recital in Victoria, he was playing this one. It looks as though has has had Jim install one of his adjustable necks to it since I saw it.

Gary & I are the same age. He probably wears the ascot to cover some sags and wrinkles, just as I wear a **** to cover my ****.
If you wanna be so critical, lemme hear you play.

I wasn't criticizing the man's playing. Just the ascot.

Truth is, I only hate because I'm jealous. I always wanted one.
