Ken Filiano

I can't believe there is not a thread on Ken yet! He is a great player from any perspective. He spent a lot of time in LA working with Vinny Golia, he studied with Bert Turetzky. He has been on the East Coast playing with everyone for the last several years. This seemed to be the best quality youtube clip:

His chops are just incredible. I was lucky enough to have some lessons with him early on in exchange for lending my amp and he showed me some amazing things about the bow.
All of the Clean Feed albums he plays on are great particularly with Steve Adams and Vinny Golia:

Ken is the man!! I have heard him slay in all settings, including solo. Check out his CD on 9 Winds, it's called Subveniere.

I got to be in a two-man bass section with him on an orchestra thing a while back and it was SO AWESOME. I took a lesson with him that radically changed my thinking about physics and relaxation. He gave me tools in one lesson that will last me forever.

A really underappreciated player...

I've only heard him with Vinny Golia. He played in Sweden last autumn in a town nearby, but I wasn't able to go see him play. Too bad. He's a great player.

Yeah, I have seen him just be the strongest link in a band of strong players a few times. He is always somehow appropriate with it as well!

Yeah I saw him wipe the floor with 2 other musicians on a straight-ahead jazz gig and make it look like he was being a supportive team player.

Really enjoyed the youtube thing . . . would love to hear him in other situations as well, would y'all recommend one album in particular on emusic? Or outside of emusic as well.

The stuff with Steve Adams on emusic, also the Vinny Golia quartet. The Space Between is also good.

I checked him out on the Y-tube. I will definitely be looking out for him.

If you actually "saw" him do that, I'm glad I wasn't there.
No offence, but it sounds like you're talking about tag-team pro-wrestling event. No?
Take it easy Paul! Just replace "owned" with "mopped the floor with".
I think the key point is Ken outshining other players while maintaining a collective attitude is what we are all commenting on here.
The real key point is he is an amazing player and a great guy that way more people should pay attention to.
