Kent Carter with Steve Lacy

WKCR has a spotlite on Steve Lacy this afternoon, much of it focusing on his mid-70's avant-garde work. They featured a live trio performance in Italy with bassist Kent Carter who really caught my attention. Excellent player from what I heard. His solo spot on the third piece was spectacular. anyone (Damon) got info on this guy?

I am now a Steve Lacy fan! I loved this music, but I imagine it's going to be tough to get a hold of.

Kent Carter is about as good as they come. Huge Pizz sound, gorgeous singing arco. He is one of the best ever. There are early recordings with Paul Bley. He did about 4 solo lps.
One you can get from http://www.emanemdisc.com along with a nice duo and two string trio albums.
There is a very rare duo LP on the Italian Horo label with Lacy.
More later!

Lacy's music is just fantastic. It is so clear and forward thinking at all times. I had a gig at the Jazz School a few weeks ago where I was a last minute sub for a gig doing all Lacy tunes. It was great, but I wish had more time with that music.

No, he is gone. Big loss. We should also mention J.J. Avenel. Kent Carter's student who replaced him in Steve's groups. He is really, really fine bass player. Both he and Kent are still with us.
