Lee Rocker

Does anyone else remember Stray Cats bassist lee rocker? Stray Cats played retro-rockabilly at the start of the 80s and Rocker was an upright bassist...pretty unique among pop bands at the time.

Just curious if anyone else remembers him and what they make of him?

I saw the Straycats at the Roskilde festival in 1990 (or was it -91...?). Anyways, I wasn't into DB then, but I clearly remember him standing on that bass and jumping it around.
Still curious to how that bass was constructed, it took a hell of a beating...

I think Bob Gollihur's page has a link to Rocker's homepage.

I just got his "Rockabilly Slap Bass" instructional video, and it's a pretty good showcase for his style. He's not a bad teacher, either, for a pro player. Yeah, his bass surely takes a beating.

Turns out he's got a decent voice too.!

BTW, I've found that this style isn't something I want to delve into after all...anybody want to buy this video from me?

Lee Rocker

Lee Rocker was/is an excellent player for this genre of music. Another DB player who is an exceptional bassist and a phenominal performer is Joe Fick. Joe plays in a Rockabilly trio called the Dempseys who frequently play at a club called Elvis Presley's Memphis on Beale Street at 2nd Ave in Memphis TN. These guys are the most energetic performers I've ever seen and Joe is the 'star' of the band. We who are impressed with Lee Rocker's playing would be totally amazed with what Joe Frick does both sonically and with respect to stage presence.

Rocker has been touring with his new band. He's been playing the small club/hotel-lounge circuit, believe it or not.

I had a chance in the spring to see him in Indianapolis, but ended up not being able to make the show. He got very good reviews, though. If I recall, he is also handling the vocal work, too.
