Meeting Edgar Meyer?

Am I lucky that I get the chance to have a lesson with Edgar Meyer?

Is he as good as my teacher says?

Anyone got any recordings or videos?

Edgar is a great guy, a real "pants-leg-one-at-a-time" kinda person. Enjoy your time with him. Remember he's from the Sankey school, so no BS allowed. Tell us all about it when you're done!

I'm a big fan, for what that's worth (not much, I'd imagine...).

I would ask Edgar for ID. It could just be Ken Smith in disguise.

I dunno... Edgar must be stupid or something. I mean, he recorded the Bach Cello Suites on the wrong instrument. He must be so embarrassed.

Hmm.. I notice that some people do not like him?

Watching his youtube videos- He sound pretty ligit to me.

Even my teacher says he is probably one of the best, if the THE best bass player in the world.

Yo-Yo Ma- King of the cello is good friends with him. And he likes his playing a lot.

And what is wrong with playing the cello suites on the bass? It sounds better on the bass..
Even I did it, is that bad?

Is there something wrong with transcribing a song for another instrument. Especially when it sounds better on bass?

No there is not. People have been doing it for hundreds of years.

Brandon, 99% of these posts are sarcasm. I imagine people will be mad at me for informing you, and ruining the fun.

Edgar Meyer is a bad ass, you are lucky to have a lesson with him. I hope you gain greatly from it.

Haha, I hope that's a reference to what I think it is.

Edgar's a great guy. If anyone doesn't like him it's because he raises the bar so incredibly high for any other musician let alone bass players.

That's great. How did you get a lesson with him? He rarely teaches private lessons, if I've ever heard of him doing it once. I think you will really enjoy the lesson. My only advice is to not talk too much, just listen and learn. You might videotape it if possible. If not, definitely record it.
