I have lot info on paul chambers so for the different question that i saw in this forum (sorry for my english I'm french ) :
-paul was 17 when he
studie arco with gaston BROHAM ( first DB of detroit symphony orchestra 2 ) for 3 years after he move to NYC and studie with philip SKLAR ( first DB of NBC symphony) and in the "detroit string band orchestra" ( a band with the best of NYC's musician )
- for his bow it's was a german, I don't whole the story, but Philly Joe Jones had it :"he
wouldn't even let cats touch it, only look"...( see the intro of ARCOLOGY by stinnet)
-paul was married at 18 with ann( there are two song for her)and had 2 children eric and renée.
-one year
after his arrival to detroit he didn't know that possible
to play chords on bass so with recommantion of one
DB player he buy a slam stewart's book to work. the best site in the world about PC it's : http://membres.lycos.fr/reneseon/index.htm
it's the best but it's in french,so for rob palmer (if you want for your paul's bio " I can" translate what you want cause
for me Paul is THE BASS for all...)on this site you can find many many info, interviewof paul himself by a old magazine jazz hot, many pix, and all discography ... there is also link to a german site very complete about paul in the american press...let's swing baby

That's what playing Jazz is all about. He played like a man, a real man. Not like us steel string, 3mm strings height, pick-up using, amp cructhing, bridge adjusting Bass whimps we have grown up to be...

wow what a manly hunk of a bass player - def. more of a man then say pick up using dudes like Dave Holland, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden, and George Mraz and every other bass player around right now...definitely! thats what Jazz is - a man's music, to be played in a manly way with a real manly bass set up and manly lack of help and just plain manliness everywhere. Infact - it just doesnt swing in a manly way when it's anyway else - here's to us men. jazz not a womens sport whatsoever - all man -all the time.
