My current favorite find is Berrimbass off of Arcoluz: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VXt6htVi3C4
Sorry if he has been mentioned here before or something, like I said I've never posted here before.

I showed his CD to all my old bass buddies and they were equally amazed. Hopefully I can catch him over here in the states, I hear his concerts are awesome. |

I saw him last year at the ISB convention in OKC; it was a great show. He played a 2 octave descending line- really fast tempo, in something stupid like 64th-note triplets- SPICATTO! IN ONE BOW STROKE! There was an audible gasp in in house, which was, of course, practically all bassists. My girlfriend leaned over to me and asked 'what's up with that' to which I replied, 'I'll explain later, after I change my pants...'
My only criticism is that his music is a little new-agey for my taste. For me, it becomes a little repetitive. I can only listen to about 1/2 of Acroluz before I'm 1) bored and/or 2) ready to switch careers.
His bow hand is amazing- so smooth. That's high praise considering he plays a 5 string where the string spacing and tolerances (i.e. 'margin of error') is really tight. |
