I am now listening to the "Ken Burns Jazz: Ornette Coleman" compilation (?) and I'm wondering about who played upright with Coleman. I'm not certain of the era, but all of the bass on that album is excellent so I might as well hear as many names as possible

| | | | For the most part Ornette played with Charlie Haden, but he also occasionally played with Scott LaFaro (Free Jazz and several other tunes) and David Izenzon (Live at the Golden Circle Stockholm). |

| | | | As of late, I've been digging Ornette's recent "Sound Grammar" with two basses - Greg Cohen (mostly pizz) and Tony Falanga (mostly arco). I think the Ken Burns material was with Charlie Haden, but I haven't watched that in awhile. |

Greg Cohen and Tony Falanga on upright and Al Macdowell on electric bass.
I had a very interesting conversation with Ornette just today. |

Great bass player.

I think Don is living in the Miami area. |

| Tony Falanga is such a great player. He was already a beautiful and modest bassist when I went to school with him (briefly) many years ago...and he's just gotten better and better and better... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPclt2R7xbE
Tony's the one nailing the Bach Prelude from the first 'Cello Suite, on the left. Horrible sound and camera work, but you get the idea...
