Paul Gill

Heard about his playing for several years now through folks I know that hang out at Smalls, but I just picked up Spike Wilner's Live at Smalls on eMusic and am very impressed with his playing and conception. Love his live sound as well.

He takes a very nice arco solo on A Blues of Many Colors....very Chambersesque.

Anyone know more about him?

The rhythm section is really swinging between him and Joe Strasser. Very nice bass and drums.

Paul's a fantastic player all around, and he really excels at the whole arco thing in a jazz setting (that's what really stands out in my mind). We tend to trade gigs from time to time, working with some of the same guys in town. I'd recommend checking out some of Peter Zak's trio CDs on Steeplechase, most of which feature Paul.

Paul was part of that short lived group backing Diana Krall for a minnit (Peter Bernstein etc), but great sound and wonderfully melodic player...
