Peter Ind

I have been reading Peter Ind's book on Tristano, it is a nice read and he is great player. He really lays down some heavy quarter note lines and great solos on Tristano's "Manhattan Studio". A lot of his work is on emusic:

His recent duo with Rufus Reid is outstanding:

I have had his solo LP "Improvisation" for many years, it has some great playing as well some interesting experiments with over-dubbing and tape speeds.
Another great LP to track down is the fantastic duo with Sal Mosca
He is a really interesting and innovative player. He seems to be still active at 80 years old:

I saw Peter Ind a few days ago, in trio with Lee Konitz and Dave Cliff. He still sounds great...

My teacher (and his wife Alexa, who's a singer who studied with Sal) got to hang with Peter a few years back when they visited Great Britain (I think he was living in London then). Joe's got a nice cassette recording of them both playing bass with Alexa singing.

Are you hip to the tapes of Peter playing bass lines to tunes (along with a metronome) that he gave to Lennie to play along with? Joe has some of that stuff, it's a gas to listen to...

Are they good? I read Lennie recorded with them and changed the speed.

I don't know about changing the speed, but he did overdub his playing and released at least some of it commercially. Personally, I identify more with Sonny Dallas' time and approach, but there are some really nice lines in the recordings....

Yeah, I hear you on Sonny Dallas, Ind is interesting to me because I think he was more experimental - making solo lps and such. For walking and jazz time Sonny is one of my very favorites, I can listen to that guy walk quarter notes all day. I just got "Intuition". I really wish that trio with Konitz and Elvin made about 10 more albums.

Yes, they're good, and yes, Tristano altered the speed (faster). I had the original LP and have the CD reissue. Overdubbing was Lennie's idea.
