Peter Washington

Has anybody seen Peter Washington play? I saw him this year at the '06 Newport Beach Jazz Festival. He was insane. Super fast licks and innovative soloing. If you haven't heard him, make it a point to do so.

I haven't seen Peter play, but I recently picked up a couple of Bill Charlap Trio CD's w/Peter and Kenny. What a fat sound Peter gets! Great ideas, too. I'll definitely check him if he passes my way.

I've seen Peter a number of times and he is always killing! That guy has it all together, no question.

Is he still playing with Bill Charlap? I saw Charlap's trio a couple of years ago, and Washington was incredble (as was the other Washington, Kenny, on drums).

Charlap is going to be in Chicago at the end of the month, and I most definitely plan on going, especially if PW is still in the line-up.

Scratch that. Just checked the Showcase's Web site and looks like Charlap is out, Hod O'Brien is in.

He seems to play with a variety of people, but I saw him in Newport Beach with Wycliffe Gordon. If you guys haven't heard him, you'll be blown away by his intense trombone skills.

Peter Washington is rapidly developing into one of the most recorded jazz bassists on the planet. A quick look at the CrissCross website will giv eyou an idea of the range of things he has done for that one label. A personal favorite is Billy Drummond's DUBAI (with Walt Weiskopf and Chris Potter).

There's a great interview in BASS PLAYER a couple of years back.

Any relation, or just a weird coincidence?

Check the website for article archives or e-mail them and see if you can get a copy or transcript by e-mail or pdf attachment.
