Peter Washington & The Blue Note 7

Went and saw this in Germantown, TN last night.....great playing on Peter's part and the group was fantastic. A bit on the "slick" side as far as the group; more about the arrangements than the improv/ group thing but still a lot of fun to see.

I was on the front row and could hear everything acoustically (speakers were on the far sides of the stage) and it was a nice sound although it was tough to hear Bill Charlap at times.

I still can't believe the velocity and clean-ness Peter gets out of using the middle finger together with the index. His sound was a lot different than when I last heard him when he used Velvets. This was very clear....unmistakably him but not as deep. Different bass too I think than the Hawkes; looked smaller. I think it was strung with LaBellas?

Definitely don't miss this tour if it comes near you.

I saw them when they opened the tour in Seattle. It was a great show. I've always loved Peter Washington's sound and shouldn't have been surprised to watch him, but I was taken back at how perfect his technique was. No wasted motion, his left hand "assumed the position" and never left it, he navigated perfect lines and looked totally at ease the whole night. It was a great lesson for me and inspiration to practice more.

The band was killin and they were playing some of my favorite music. Obscure, Blue Note Hard Bop. Love it.

2nd your endorsement to see it if you can.
