And it was incredible! I don't even know where to start...
I saw him playing with John Clayton and Mike Marshall:

It was in a little (but very nice) theater. About 250 seats, and I was in the very front row. The show was purely acoustic and it looked like the theater was pretty well filled.
Of the songs I recognized, Edgar played "The Low Road" and Bach's Prelude in G, both solo. He also played "Big Country" and an extended version of "Please Don't Feed the Bear", both with Mike. The 3 of them played one of the "well tempered clavier" book pieces that was on the Music for Two CD with Bela.
I had never heard Clayton play before this, and he definitely knows his stuff! He was playing a very large bass (4/4 I'm guessing) that had a really big sound. Looked/Sounded like Gut strings. He played a very cool solo piece...don't know what it was called.
Edgar is just incredible. His intonation was dead on throughout the whole show, playing fast stuff and double stops up high towards the far end of his fingerboard extension. Clayton was always shaking his head in disbelief whenever he came back out after Edgar did a solo piece. His Gabrielli didn't have quite as much volume as Clayton's bass, but the tone was as good as it gets. Definitly better sounding up high than any other bass I've heard, perfectly clear and just singing, like a cello. It looked a bit smaller than a 3/4, but maybe that's just because of the shape or Edgar's large stature.
And Mike is amazing as always. He played a lot of Brazillian style music, which he said had been a bit infulence on him lately. The 3 of them were all very casual and joking on stage. They all seemed really happy to be there and be playing together.
So yeah. Over a 3 hour drive each way. but it was more than worth it
