I just have a question about Mr Brown. Does anyone know what strings he used? I searched around but didn't come up with anything.
Also, let me just say that Ray blows my mind every time I hear him. I've never heard a record where he doesn't sound at the top of his game. He is jazz bass!
Just a little rant....

Just a little rant.... | If I'm not mistaken I believe Ray used Spiros (not sure what gage) thru a good ol' Polytone.

I liked his early sound which I believe was Red O Ray gut strings, which were a common string used by a lot of bassists at the time. They went out production as far asI know( as I tried to get some at one time, to no avail) but have since been re-introduced, but I may stand to be corrected on that. Whatever he used, it suited the bass he was using at the time, and he made them work for him to get his unique sound.
Its not just all in the fingers, its using what you have as a collective whole to get the sound you are trying to achieve. |

Somewhere in between the guts and Spiros, he used and endorsed(of course)Lycons, which was my first string purchase. They were great, even on my Juzek ply and wish they were still around.
