standards

does anyone know of any particular standards that sound really good played on solo bass?

To me, any standard can sound good on solo DB - are you looking for something more specific maybe? like a ballad recommendation with horn-like phrasing or something????

Ray has a great point, when playing solo or duo with another single line instrument, it's easiest to make those tunes with substantial melodic and harmonic movement work best. Tunes that are static harmonically or have melodies made up of whole and half notes (or tied whole notes for keerist's sake) are kinda hard to keep moving by yourself...

But like Alex says, songs that sound nice generally sound nice no matter what instrument you play them on. What songs do you like to play?
