Transcriptions

Hi all,

I'm looking for any transcriptions of any of Bill Evans' bass players from Scotty onwards, but only of the bass lines, not interested in the solo's for this particular project. It's for a paper I'm doing, so if I end up using any of them, I would of course give full credit to the transcriber.

Let me know if ya know of any out there.

Cheers.
Damian

I will have a transcription of Scotty's line on "No Greater Love" from the Arrival of Victor Feldman in the November issue of Bass Player Magazine -- if you can wait that long.

Can't wait that long John but thanks, looks like I'll have to do them myself! Also, I'm more interested in his interactive stuff for this project, so while anything is interesting, I need the Bill Evans trio basslines.

It's not a big deal, just trying to save myself some time. Left this project waaaay to late.

I put a Larry Grenadier transcription up in the music section if anyone's interested, maybe it's the wrong place for it, it's I'll Be Seeing You from art of the trio vol 4.
I'll get that issue of BP in Nov though for sure

You could just get the Hal Leonard book with all the trio transcriptions . . . bass, pno, drums in there.

I know you just want the bass lines, but if you want solos, Phil Palombi's book is extremely thorough and accurate.
Scott Lafaro (15 Solo Transcriptions from the Bill Evans Trio Recordings Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby Transcribed by Phil Palombi) (Paperback)

Palombi's book is amazingly accurate. Every note (in or out of tune), inflection, dynamic and rhythm is painstakingly transcribed and analyzed. He did an amazing job. You can use these transcriptions for reading practice and get very close to what LaFaro played (assuming you're a good reader).

The Hal Leonard books aren't very accurate. At least the LaFaro one isn't. Try reading through one while listening to the recording and you'll see LOTS of errors. It's a start though. It would be a good exercise to go through and correct the Leonard books and write out what he actually played.
