who was the double bass player i saw on TV playing with Eric Bibb? Danny Thomson?

Hi there, i'm an intruder from the other side of talk bass , i don't tend to listen to much ascustic, but on TV tonight there is a great acustic blues set which is really opening my mind.

I want to know who the double-bass player is. It's a TV show on Australian TV, a live set with a singer/guirtaist called Eric Bibb and a double bass player, no other band members.
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/netw/...009T233000.htm

I keep missing the name, but it sounds like "danny top" or something like that? Google tells me there is a Danny Thomson who played with Eric Bibb? did anybody catch the show?

did these two release any recordings together? or was it just a few live shows?

I think the bass player said between songs that he didn't play much other blues, is there anything else he plays that might interest a curious rock-fan?

[apologies for any n00b ignorance, i usually live in the world of pickups and headbanging]

Danny Thompson was/is the bassist for Pentangle. They sound (to my ears anyway) like an acoustic version of Jethro Tull, minus the flute. A real good start is the Light Flight Anthology.

Danny Thompson

Danny Thompson has played with Richard Thompson (no relation). Check out the Austin City Limits show on DVD. Excellent.

He does a great job on Donovan's "Beat Cafe" album, which is where I first heard him. Interesting sound.

you guys are better than the TV station were, they got back to me weeks later with what seems to be the wrong answer

"Thank you for your email regarding Live at the Basement featuring Eric Bibb. Please accept my apologies for the delay in my response.

It is great to read that you enjoyed the program. Unfortunately the ABC no longer has the rights to repeat this series of the program. However, I am pleased to let you know that the bass player featured on the program with Eric Bibb was Dave Bronze. Here is a link to the website for the program where you can find out more information about the program:

At least you didn't type "do-able".... in that case, I'd have to say Esperanza Spalding.

The only thing I know about Bronze is that he played on Clapton's 'From The Cradle'.
