Who is great? | Being Scandinavian - you should know the work of the late, great, Nils Henning Orsted Pederson - I also really like the Swedish bassist who played with Keith Jarrett : Palle Danielsson!

I don't know if any of the jazz bassists above have recorded strictly classical projects, but I have a feeling that they can/could hold their own!

Stanley Clarke (sometimes) | What does that mean ... Stanley Clarke sometimes?!?! The man is a ABSOLUTE GENIUS ON THE INSTRUMENT!!! Sorry to get so carried away ... It was because of him that I dropped the sax and took up the bass in the first place! I think he's great ... DEFINITELY ONE OF THE GREATEST TO EVER TOUCH THE INSTRUMENT! Let me stop here before I get carried away ... But seriously, there are a ton of great bassist out there (including many of you in the talkbass forum) and you guys mentioned a good crew to top any list!

I knew that would get a rise out of someone! What I was hinting at is that he is also an awesome slab bass player as well, and a lot of people are only aware of his BG work.
No disrespect intended there..

Go research all the names mentioned here, find out what style of music they play, and try to find at least one recording of each one. That should keep you busy!( When you're not practicing, of course.. )

He really is a pioneer of Bass, especially of soloing with an Orchestra behind him. |
