Angry

Similar to the old Framus, Selmer and Alcoa. Awful sounding things.

Here's some stuff.

Selmer Metal Bridge
Here's a pic I pulled out...

I had one of the Framus type three legged metal bridges on my American Standard bass. It actually sounded really good (pizz. only- don't know about arco). I only took it off because I couldn't rig a pickup onto it. That four legged one on ebay looks way too heavy though and that string spacing does look pretty messed up.

I bought one of those bridges and use it. I love it and I have a fishman full circle mounted on it. The bridge works great for pizz. IT has a nice curve that lets the fingers flow from any string to another. Kind of tough on arco at first but once your hand readjust its no big deal.

just make sure you ask him for one with even spacing. I noticed the weird spacing too but I asked for one with out that and thats what I got. I will say that it cuts down on your acoustic volume a little bit. not very much but if you play your bass often you will hear it. I play in an orchestra, a jazz band, and a metal band with it and it works great in all 3 categories. Acoustically and through the pickup.

Call me traditional or whatever but this device reminds me of Dr Frankenstein. I would never put it on anyone of my beauties.

Talking

Have a good time, knock yerself out and all that but you, of course, are kidding yourselves about any kind of good acoustic sound with one of these things. Sure, almost any good PU, all things considered, will put a decent sound into an amp. If that's what you want, why not go with an easily portable EUB?
Have a great time, but that thing is doing nothing good for the inherent sound of a DB. It spells m u t e to me.

That right there would kill that idea immediately for me personally - I'm trying to get maximum b*lls out of the bass acoustically. But if it works for you and you know you'll be plugged in most of the time, cool.

I do know that when I bow, and I touch the top plate maybe 2-3" in front of the bridge, the volume goes down significantly. That seems to be where the front foot of the Triffid is. But without trying it myself, I can't speculate.

all I have to say is that all of you have heard it so you all know what it sounds like right?

And that's fine man. I'm not butt hurt. The thing that I'm starting to notice about this site though is rather than people discussing ideas and bettering bassist it's mostly people showing up and saying they no it all rather than discussing possibilities.

Maybe it makes a good step for stunts, but no one really needs to hear it to know how bad it sounds. Does it eliminate feedback at high volumes?

Well heres a thought: what about putting contact mics under those feet north and south of the bridge?
