1936 King Basket Case and Thanks to all

I purchased this 1936 King off Phoenix Craigslist for $200 on September 10th. I was inspired to do this after reading a ton of posts on talkbass. I would like to thank James Condino, Groove Theory, Mollkay, George700DL, Timobee4, Arnoldschnitzer and my favorite poster Matthew Tucker. You have given me hours of pleasure and fun reading your posts. Please forgive me for borrowing (stealing?) your ideas.and knowledge.

This for me is practice for building my first bass. I will use this bass mainly for Bluegrass and expect to have spent around $1100 total for parts and tools when I'm finished. I'm not sure that I will be able to call it a King when I'm done as it will look completely different. I am sorry that the state of the bass and my skills did not allow me to restore the King to original condition.

Finish will be Boiled Linseed Oil to pop the curl, 2 coats of Amber Shellac, Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber straight from the tube to antique the finish and 8 or so coats of Waterlox. Thanks to you all.

Still have more antiquing to do. I hope it sounds as good as I think it's going to look. Progress so far in link.

Awesome job!!!

You are providing a great service by breathing life back in this “queen of a bass”. I hope the bass rewards you handsomely with a powerful sound.
