Another Bridge Question

My bass came with an extra bridge. Recently having got in contact with a luthier who told me to take the tension off of the instrument completely, I took the strings, tailpiece, bridge off, and soundpost out. I then decided to compare the two bridges side by side. The darker, smaller bridge is the one that has been on the instrument, the lighter, larger one, the extra that was in the bag. What is the difference in these two bridges besides size? I know that the previous owner had another instrument that was ruined, could this be from that bass? The larger one's treble foot fits, but bass side doesn't match up. Could I possibly have the larger one reshaped to fit this instrument?

Well you might have a bridge for guts (bigger bridge) and a bridge for steel strings. String notches on the bigger one are larger. But if the feet on the bigun don't fit well ... anybodys guess, really.

I was wondering if strings had something to do with it, but as you said, since the feet don't fit well...maybe I'm not placing it properly.
