Unhappy "Bad Vibrations"

Hello
I am new to this forum and have a perplexing problem.
I just bought a bass and thought initially that the strings were vibrating against the fingerboard when playing fast pizz.
After messing with it a while i had a friend hold various strings and finally figured out that I am getting a horrible vibration
[harmonic vibration?] on my open D string when playing any other string. Also the D string doesnt sound too good when played either.

I tried various types of strings and had the same result

Any help would be welcome

two part harmony

bridge...fit and location/ soundpost..fit and location..it does have a soundpost, right? i'd start there..shim notch @ nut/bridge (D) see if it goes away..tailpiece?..you have to change something in the combination that's exciting the string. good luck you'll find it if you are persistent

Your problem is most likely the nut groove on the d string. Either too low, or not angled down enough into the pegbox.
