Bass Work Clamp

Hey Cody, I finally got around to taking some measurements and photos of my Bass Clamp. I've posted them on the 'Workshop' page at www.thebassspa.com

If I've inadvertently left out any important data, please let me know!

We just dropped close to a million scheckles on our new building. This would make a fine addition to my shop! Thanks Jake!

Jake, each time i look at your site i feel as a "child of a lesser God".
If i had a luthier with your skills in manageable distance i could made wonders with my basses. Alas, the nearest decent luthier is in Cremona, Italy, so i need at least three days for a serious work
in anyone of my basses. I have done it in the past and it costed me a fortune, but i managed to have properly restored an old work horse from the Konya family, Hungary.
As an amateur luthier i thank you for your sharing your ideas and for your contribution. Needless to say that i've just started to construct the bass clamp.

Nice!

Jake,

Really like the "clamp". I like the fact that it won't take up a lot of room in my workshop. I have a good bench, but this would be handy, especially now that I sometimes have two basses in the shop at one time!

Didn't Matthew also have something similar posted here once?

Thanks for all your valuable contributions.

Do you have any sound files for us to listen to that bedspring tailpiece? I got a good laugh out of that, but imagine that it sounded like you were playing it through an old tweed fender amp in a subway tunnel!

I just made up a new gigantic bass workbench this week. I'm almost a bit hesitant to show it off. I ran into an old fellow who randomly had about 4000 board foot of 20 year old Honduras mahogany 12/4 beams stacked up outside near his barn. After a couple of years of negotiating, as of next week he and I will both have a "bench of decadence"; beautiful, fully 1/4 sawn and French polished Honduras mahogany, just for double basses....

At first, I tried to buy the wood outright and he wouldn't have anything to do with it. Much later he randomly called me and reminded me that I mentioned it would be great to have a giant bass workbench made out of that; if I was willing to make one for him, I could have all I need for free....

Jake, love that clamp! I'm making one this weekend! Also, the tailpieces are way cool, flame maple does make a beautiful piece, huh?

Thanks Mike, good to see you posting! Yeah, I'd be just as happy to carve them from cherry but that curly grain is very attractive.

Mine's just two portable padded things that I put on my padded bench when I need to have a bass on there as in the pic. Coupla sandbags holds it quite firmly.

I got the idea from John Sprague. Its a little simpler and quicker to build than Jakes Rolls Royce!

I think with Jake's clamp I would miss the table space underneath to chuck my tools and things when working on the bass.

Please .... MikeMan, Brian, and Dr. Mike P (nice work YourSelf ... I have learnt from You) ... Knock it off .

Don't make Jake blush or, even worse yet, give him a Big Head. He's holding my bass hostage right now and might raise his rates on me . Not only does Jake make a mean bassclamp .... He knows how to use one. I was so happy with his spa treatments on one of my basses that he now has my other one. OK .... I was looking at Jake's website pix the other night and got so-lonesome when I saw my '40 Kay .

Like Bill Monroe sang one time (or maybe it was Lester Scruggs):

"Sweetheart, I beg you to come home tonight
I'm so blue and all alone
I promise that I'll treat you right
Love, oh love, oh please come home."

Nice Cody but I see you've made the same mistake I made at first. When you're tired of impaling your thighs on the clamp handles, put them on the other ends!

I don't get to choose the ads Eric. I'm just trying to pay the freight here.
