Boston Luthier

Hi i have a pretty awful plywood bass that i would love to make more playable. I live just north of boston and was wondering where i could take my bass to be "set up" to be played better and about how much that would cost. Thanks

You can't go wrong with either:
Volker Nahrmann in Billerica
Calvin Marks in Tewksbury

There is a recent thread on the same topic here with other suggestions.

Mark,

Sorry for my carelessness. I have enjoyed your informative posts on Talkbass and know you are a great resource for the OP. There is a Calvin Marks in our TB family and know that's not you.

Just for clarification: On TB, Calvin Marks is a troll, and Mark Carlson is a Lluthier.

Mark: "Dick Lankey"?

+100 Mike did some work on my bass. Some fingerboard planing, soundpost reshaping/placement, nut refining. Outstanding, reasonably priced work. Very quick and professional. He's going to cut me a new bridge this spring. If Jeff B. from UNT thinks his work is fine, it's good enough for me!

I can say from personal experience that Micheal Hartery and Mark Carlsen are both dedicated pros and do excellent work. Seek one of them out.
