Bow tip broken

Hi,
While I was playing the other night, the plastic laminate piece on the hair side of the tip of my bow broke, allowing the hair to come out of the tip. When I tried to push the hair with the little wood plug back in, it wouldn't hold because the plastic was broken.

Can I fix this with crazy glue?

If it needs a luthier repair, is it an expensive fix?

The bow is brazilwood and I like it.

DO NOT use crazy glue. Use water soluable glue to fix the tip. The plug should hold the hair without the use of glue.

You might be able to get a new tip with a rehair thrown in for less than $100.00. Maybe not depending on where you live.

Like Elmer's? What is the purpose of the white veneer? Could I just pull it off completely?

the tip actually does protect the stick. better for it to break than the bow itself. i wouldn't pull it off, it's an easy fix you can get done next time you get a rehair.

Elmer's is not water soluable. If you don't want to go the hot glue route, use Franklin's Hide Glue. It usually comes in a brown bottle, and is light brown in color. It will say right on the bottle that it is hide glue and is water soluable.

You say you like the bow. I would spend the money to have it fixed properly by a luthier.

Danger here!

My humble recommendation is to take it to a bowmaker.

I had a man do a crude fix on a bow tip, "I can do it, no sweat. Let me just get out the crazy glue..."

Made a mess of the thing. Cost me more money to get it fixed properly. I agree with Bill Bentgen; take it to One Who Knows....
