Bridge Adjuster material?

I have an old set of bridge adjusters I was going to put into a new bridge. The luthier who took the old bridge off assumed they were ebony, but I just pulled them out to take to the luthier, and it sure seems like they are plastic, not ebony.

Does the material matter? As a matter of taste, I think I will ditch the plastic adjusters in favor of something else, but what? Aluminum? Ebony (if they can even be found)? Use the plastic anyway? (Don't send 'em to the landfill - reuse!!!)

Your opinions please!
Thanks!
