British Airways and my 1955 Kay C1

Hi folks,
Who has experience with getting money from airlines when they damage your bass? I filed a claim and I've called British air. They said that they have a maximum compensation of $1100. I've taken the bass to a local luthier in Boston, he looked at it and came up with a solution to replace the entire neck, scroll, and fingerboard for $2200. But I don't find it worth the money to fix the Kay... Please share with me some of your experiences.

Keep looking into luthiers... I am sure you can find someone who will do it for less... is the rest of the bass OK?

This is what travel insurance is for... topping up what the airlines are required to cover.

I wondered the same thing. If you didn't have it in a hard case or at least a cardboard box stabilized with wood beams, you're lucky as hell.

Hard lines man, that's a nasty mishap. But you're lucky cos my parents bought a wooden statue on holiday and the head got snapped off. The airline didn't pay a penny because it was "an unusual shape".

You're lucky you got anything, and that the damage wasn't more severe.

2200 bucks will get you another real nice old Kay, if you look around. From the look of the pic, I'd be surprised if the rest of the bass isn't trashed as well.

Take the money from the airline and run, if you actually get your hands on any.
