Broken Neck Joint on King Mortone on Ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=16222

Scroll down the bottom, there is a pic on this King Mortone. Neck looks cracked. Is that the kiss of death?

Any luthier opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The Mortone was bid up to $800. Seems like a good deal. Was tempted to jump on it, but that neck joint looked fishy, and I already have a plywood bass. Plus the 43'' scale might have been too long.

How many basses does one man need?

Being a King, that bass had potential. The neck needed replacing, which would enable correct alignment for steel strings. We don't know what else needed fixing, but $800 plus repairs could result in a nice bass.

"Need"? For a while, I was up to seven. I guess that was excessive. Two sounds about right...well, maybe three...uh, well.....hmmmm...

As the folks at HUMMER say, "Need is subjective."

Ok, I NEED a carved bass, and just merely WANT another plywood.

So, to rephrase the question:

"How many plywood basses does one man need"

Actually, there is a mathmatical formula that makes calculating the answer very easy.

Simply take the number of basses you currently own and add "1".

Does the "1" go in front of, or after, the current number?

My thought was:

where b = number of current basses owned and n = number needed, n = b+1

But I went to a pretty liberal University. Go with whatever makes you comfortable.

Either of my formulae yield greater pleasure.

Coincidentally, I learned a few things down the road from you: Fort Leonard Wood.
