Broken steel wire

Sorry for my english when it comes to double bass parts.

Suddenly yesterday when I was playing a concert the steel wire on my bass snapped off. With steel wire I mean the wire that is on the bottom of the bass, keeping the black wood (witch hold the strings in place) in place. This is english embarrasing hehe, I hope you know what I mean.

So I want to replace that wire. The mechanic is simple of course, but can I simply replace this wire myself? And do any of you have instructions on how to do it?

Only high quality replacement is good enough so please tell me if its stupid to try to replace it myself.

Thanks

tailpiece hanger instructions...

Here's a link to instructions on how to replace your wire tailpiece hanger with steel cable on Bob G's website. He also sells the stranded cable and parts in a kit if you are not confident about finding the right stuff yourself at the hardware store...
