Capos on John Patitucci's bass?

On the Pirastro website there is a picture of John holding a bass with very interesting capos on the extension. Anyone know who makes these and where I can view some close-up photos? Any player responses?

Is this the picture you are talking about?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer but this may help others answer your question.

They're not really "capos". There are two kinds of C extensions - fingered or with machines. On a fingered extension, it's just like a little fingerboard (sometimnes with a small machine that you can engage to have an "open" E string and then disengage to have an open C) and you have to finger any note between the E and the low C. On a machined extension, and there are a number of different kinds of machine solutions - keys, levers, etc. - you engage and disengage the machine to get a note. So with machines you can have an open E, open D#/Eb, open D, open C#/Db and open C.

I'm pretty sure that Robobass knows about the different types of C extensions since he is the designer and manufacturer of those nice brass capos that are used by many bass luthiers on their full chromatic C extensions. However, I don't know the answer to his question either.

You might try emailing Patitucci through his website.

Speaking of which, the site has an 'Equipment' page which lists all of his gear sponsors but doesn't mention his DB.

Those are installed by a guy who does work for Tom Martin in England. I've seen a few sets and have been unimpressed.

Those are the ones I mean. A pretty neat idea, but I imagine very tricky to get right. What do we call this? "non-mechanical chromatic extension"? I just say "fingered extension with capos".
