chipped bass

I banged my bass against a concerete post yesterday (ouch), tired afer a long gig, and knocked a small chip off the edge, about 1.5cms. Is there any reason not to just glue the piece back on? with normal woodglue or something else?

Hot hide glue is the preferred glue... usually. Is this a plywood edge or solid wood edge.

Its a solid edge. Is the reason for using hide glue so that it can be opened up again? as this chip doesn't reach the seam, I can't imagine any reason for wanting to undo my repair. Would there be any other problems with wood glue? I think hide glue would be difficult and expensive to get hold of, and (hopefully!) I won't be needing to do this sort of thing very often.
