convert 1/2 size to 5/8 size for travel bass

A 1/2 size with a 38" scale
I like it because it is so easy to travel with
With a Realist and an amp , it sounds good too

Can the scale be lengthened to 40.5" ?

Only if you install a longer neck.

I know that to shorten a string length , a false nut can be installed
Was hoping there was an easier technique than replacing the neck
