cost of a setup?

so i just recently purchased an older german bass. I took it to a luthier and was told the setup would be around $1000. He said he would put on a new adjustable bridge, put on a new fingerboard because mine is "too thin and warped," adjust the sound post, touch up the bass around the edges, and give me new wire on my tailpiece. Does this sound reasonable? I have played a couple basses he has setup and they are effortless to play.

I spent $1400 on bridge, nut and fingerboard alone. Sounds like a deal to me if the board and bridge are top quality.

A good quality fingerboard isn't cheap so that sounds reasonable. I've paid $250-400 for setups that included dressing but not replacing the fingerboard.

Most shops would charge $1000 for a new fingerboard alone. You're getting a good deal.

Um, this is a double bass thread... yeah $50 for a BG setup isn't bad, but a DB is sooo much more work...

IMO, a reliable luthier will make notes if you have a particular request(s) regarding the setup-when the instrument is left, or you can use multiple rubber bands to attach to the neck before leaving it. That way they can't say, the one rubber band must have broken and they didn't see the note.
...rubber bands that are big enough to stretch over the scroll?

sounds like a great deal. Around here a fingerboard alone is anywhere from $1-2K, and thats the fingerboard alone. if he's throwing in a new bridge as well, it's definately a very reasonable price.

$1000 may seem like alot now, but it will completely re-vamp your bass. it will be like having a new bass.
