| Hey all again,
I would like to thank Ken, Arnold Schnitzer, and all for including your thoughts to this thread. It has been greatly informative to me in addition to my luthier's inspection of this "counterfeit" instrument that inspired me to write this thread in the first place.
The asking price of the dealer was fair but at the UPPER LIMIT a bass of this caliber should be sold at. He said it was put together rough and not a very careful assembly of the instrument in the first place.
The instrument has been played, and damaged and there is evidence of repairs. The repair work is shoddy, and there's a crack appearing on the top under the finger-board that is apparently a dangerous crack that should be repaired at some point in the near future. This particular repair is apparently around 1200-1500$ worth as the top has to be taken off.
For a NEW bass with serious health issues like this, I was turned off and immediately brought the bass back. If this was suppose a nice 100+ year old Tyrolean bass, or something else with a past that merits it's restoration and existance, I'd be more willing to put money into it repairing it. But for a NEW bass, and especially one without a noble past as this particular instrument.
The sound of this bass was pretty shocking as a few people were fooled as they thought it was a "Juzek-type" bass. It actually sounded pretty good, for a new bass! But finally I decided I can do better than this in finding an instrument I can claim my own.
Thanks again for all the help everyone.
Mike
