Crack in Top-looking for advise

I just got my bass back from the shop where some setup work was done and noticed a small crack coming from the F hole. It goes though the wood, and is running with the wood grain from the bass side F hole towards the bottom. It is only a few inches long and almost impossible to see. It is a fully carved bass. I'm hoping to get it in on Monday to have it dealt with professionally, but I'm curious what I should do in the meantime. My repairman is sick and not answering the phone, so it might be a little while before I can get it to him.

Thanks

You might loosen the strings so that the bridge barely stays up being careful not to knock down the soundpost. This might keep any top tension from elongating the crack. I'd also recommend a dampit well-moistened. The added humidity will expand the wood and that should help keep the crack as-is as well. An F-Hole crack can typically be glued and cleated without taking the top off.

You're in "Nawlinz" too so the wood in your bass is probably already happily hydrated..
