D at the heel on the G-string is wack.

I can't figure this one out...

I keep my strings fairly low to the board and I can handle the click-clack and minor buzzes associated with this. However, if I go to play the D on the G-string, the tone/note completely rats out and dies. C# is fine and so is Eb. It's just the D. The other catch is that this only happens when I'm playing pizz. It speaks clearly when playing arco.

Any thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated.

The string could be hitting on the very end of the Finger board, that would explain everything you said. The C# and Eb are fine because the angles the string takes when it leaves your finger allow it to clear the end of the fingerboard and continue on to the bridge, The D on the other hand probably has slight (or not so slight) high spot causing the strings path to come in contact with the end of the fingerboard.

That's all I can come up with from your post.

i'm sure a good bass luthier could address this issue easily enough. you probably just need your board dressed, which is pretty simple, fairly routine and not terribly expensive. no one can say for sure what's going on without seeing it though.

I took it in yesterday, and indeed, the board is going to be dressed.
